Short links for WhatsApp and SMS that actually get clicked
In messaging, every character counts and trust decides the click. A raw 200-character URL with tracking parameters looks broken (or scammy) and often IS broken by line-wrapping. A clean short link fixes deliverability, fits SMS limits and gives you click counts per campaign.
The SMS math
An SMS is billed in 160-character segments. A typical campaign URL with UTM parameters eats 80-120 of them; your message spills into a second segment and doubles the cost. A l-k.us link takes 15 characters — message and link fit comfortably in one segment.
WhatsApp: preview and trust
- Short links keep the message readable; the destination preview still shows the real site.
- One dynamic link per broadcast list or campaign tells you which audience clicks.
- If the promo changes, re-point the dynamic link: messages already sent now lead to the new page.
Avoiding spam filters
- Never send bare IP addresses or exotic domains: carriers flag them.
- Keep the same short domain consistently: recipients learn to recognise l-k.us links from you.
- Do not mass-send identical messages with different links in short bursts.
- Respect opt-in rules (GDPR/e-privacy): buy-in beats any deliverability trick.
Measure per channel
Create one short link per channel — SMS, WhatsApp, email footer — all pointing to the same destination with different UTM parameters hidden inside. The Link Us dashboard then shows exactly which channel drove the visits, before you even open Google Analytics.
